Boilermakers assemble, install, maintain and repair boilers, pressure vessels,
smoke stacks, storage tanks, pollution control equipment, duct work, etc., in
industries such as electric power generating stations, oil refineries, chemical
plants and steel mills. Boilermakers measure, mark, layout, fabricate, install,
assign, fit, level, grind, bolt, torque and weld metal plate, vessels, equipment
and components. They perform rigging operations to lift, move, set, assemble or
disassemble equipment or material with the use of cranes, hoists, chain falls
and come-a-longs. Boilermakers assemble and disassemble cranes, direct crane
operations, and manually lift, carry, load and unload tools, equipment, material
and supplies. Or, more simply put, we do whatever is necessary to get the job
done safely and on time.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Boilermakers work in various environmental and extremes in temperature. The
work may be indoors, outdoors, in confined spaces, at ground level or 100 – 200
feet or more up in the air. Drug and alcohol screenings are part of the
employment and training program requirements.
INTEREST AND TEMPERMENT
Boilermakers must have ability and a desire to learn. They must be able to work
with others, plan ahead and visualize a completed project, work without close
supervision, identify ever changing dangers that are present in the construction
industry and perform work in a safe manner. Have no fear of height, hazardous
work, confined spaces or work in the nuclear industry. Strength, patience,
initiative, self-discipline, positive attitude and mechanical aptitude are
beneficial traits, as well as good physical condition. Willingness to travel
and live away from home to maintain employment a plus.

the basis of welding qualifications, and then on the basis of random selection,
